The Arup Journal 1989 - Issue 2

In this issue we look at the conversion of 19th century Billingsgate Fish Market in London into a financial services house, and explore the Elan Valley Aqueduct - the refurbishment of a 19th century water supply from Wales to Birmingham.

The old Billingsgate Fish Market, situated on the north bank of the Thames, was built under the direction of architect, Sir Horace Jones, in 1874-77.

For over 100 years, the building was used for fresh fish sale and storage, until the market moved to new premises in 1982. In this issue's cover story, we explore its new owner Citicorp's desire to turn this classic London building into a modern home for financial services workers.
