What did you study and where?

BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Edinburgh Napier University. Edinburgh, UK.

Why did you choose the Arup graduate programme?

I heard about the Arup graduate programme the first time through a friend who is an engineer in another large consultancy firm. Arup has an amazing reputation in the industry when it comes to sustainable/ futuristic projects as well as company values. The company provides training courses and covers travel/ accommodation expenses that might come with it. On my final year of studies at university, I was looking for a global company to start my career at and after doing some research I was sure Arup was the right company to work for.

What do you get up to in your day-to-day role?

As an Electrical Graduate Engineer in the Buildings department, I work closely with other engineers/ professionals from different disciplines (mechanical, civil, fire, etc.) to deliver electrical design for projects.

I am normally involved in various projects at the same time. So far, I have worked on the design of universities, train stations, penitentiaries, office developments, museums, airports, spaceports, sport arenas, etc.My role includes: attending meetings with architects, clients and electrical manufacturers, delivering lighting design, fire detection schemes, power distribution and security systems.

What has been your most enjoyable moment / project so far?

The most rewarding project I have worked on so far was the Lima 2019 Pan-American Games, in Peru. Due to my background I was able to help my team with translation and delivery of technical reports that contributed for the safe design and construction of most of the Lima 2019 sport venues.

What are your future aspirations?

Now that I have completed the training courses provided by Arup, I have been considering specialising in lighting design. It would also be very interesting to be part of short/long term assignments in different countries in the future.
