Arup’s landscape architects create thoughtful, sustainable and award-winning landscape design. We work on a diverse range of award-winning projects at all scales and geographies.
Contemporary landscape design must tackle many pressing global challenges including urbanisation, climate change and habitat loss. Our approach has a priority to design inspiring and welcoming places. Importantly, they are complimented by strategies to deliver liveable cities, ensure biodiversity net gain, resilience to climate change, and better resource management.
Our design proposals are driven by consideration of how they can influence liveability and resilience of our environment, as well as applying a technical understanding of interconnected systems across water, ecology, transport, energy and waste.
Our landscape architects help steer sustainable outcomes at the outset of any project at all scales. We contribute to strategic development plans,?masterplans?for new cities, districts and mixed-use developments, major?infrastructure?projects as well as streetscapes, public realm and green building solutions.
“We look to understand unique landscape and urban contexts and the way people use them. We integrate a unique vision to maximise the fundamental opportunities that creative landscape architecture brings in creating better places. ”

Integrating early to design greener outcomes
The opportunity for greening our cities has never been so important. Particularly as we face much broader challenges including urbanisation and habitat loss. This has encouraged us to adopt the UN SDGs and develop committed approach to how we engage with our natural systems in everything that we do. Landscape architects can contribute to these challenges and this is what drives our passion to creating meaningful experiences to a broad range of people.
Our project solutions are more than recognising how good greening initiatives look and feel. They consider how meaningful they really are and how embedded they are in ideas about sustainability, responsibility, social value and ethics. Our work on the UK’s?High Speed 2 rail project?is an excellent example of how these initiatives can influence the outcomes of large scale complex projects.
We work closely with other environmental specialists, to produce design solutions that will maximise sustainability goals. By contributing early, we add greater value to design outcomes. by considering ways to improve connections to the natural world, ensure long lasting benefits to society as well as helping secure planning consents, or finding programme savings in cost, time and resources. We did this at the start of the?Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
Pioneering digital innovation
We use digital tools and processes to maximise our creativity and solve complex issues to produce transformative designs. We were recognised for Pioneering Digital Innovation in 2019 as winner of the Landscape Institute’s Landscape Innovation Award.
Using digital tools, allows us to revolutionise our projects and ensures that we are always defining new workflows and tools and facilitates our role as leader of large-scale multidisciplinary projects.
