Devni, currently based in our Kuala Lumpur office, leads our climate and sustainability work across South East Asia. I joined the London office in 2013 as a graduate in the environmental consulting team having completed a Master’s in Chemical Engineering. My work initially majored in resource and waste management strategy and infrastructure development, but I also worked on wider environmental and planning projects.
In 2015, I took a three-month sabbatical to work with an NGO in Cameroon under the Engineers Without Borders International Placements Programme helping a peri-urban municipality develop and implement a sustainable waste management strategy.
When I returned, my focus moved to all things circular economy with Arup now a member of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation. In 2017, I took on the role of leading Arup’s internal circular economy network to improve knowledge sharing and technical excellence . I then moved to the strategy and advisory team in 2019 to work more closely with other colleagues driving the circular economy agenda in the London office. Here, I got exposed and involved with some of our digital work.
“If you’d like to ask difficult questions and be part of their answer, Arup is for you! ”
In 2020, I began a 10-month secondment with C40 Cities to support five cities in southeast Asia develop Paris Agreement compliant climate action plans. The secondment was based in Singapore and when that finished in 2021, I was fortunate to be able to to join the Singapore office before moving to the Kuala Lumpur office in 2022, which is where I currently work.
I’m now helping clients develop ambitious yet actionable climate change and circular economy strategies across policy, business models, design and materials to help them on their sustainable development journey. These clients include developers, suppliers, government, multilaterals and investors. I also work on thought leadership both with our foresight team as well as externally with the likes of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation and the Singapore University of Technology & Design.
