2002 Started work at Arup
4 Offices across the UK
I studied civil engineering at university, and after completing my MEng, and a further period of research where I obtained a PhD, I began working for Arup as a bridge engineer. My work has taken me all over the UK, I’ve in an office in every part of the UK and it’s a rare Arup office where I don’t know a friendly face, or colleague I've worked with in the past.
“I’ve always considered myself extremely fortunate to work for Arup, the opportunity to work on innovative and challenging projects with some of the brightest people in the industry is what first attracted me to join Arup ”
I’ve always considered myself extremely fortunate to work for Arup, the opportunity to work on innovative and challenging projects with some of the brightest people in the industry is what first attracted me to join Arup. The ability to develop new skills, and in new disciplines has also been so important for me, as well the sense of community within the firm and its unique ethos. People really do strive to deliver quality and that’s so important.
Since joining, I’ve been involved as an analyst / designer on some major, high-profile projects. I worked on the redevelopment of St Pancreas Station in preparation for High Speed 1 as well as the Rheola Bridge, part of a major relief road in South Wales. That was the first ‘big’ project I worked on – it was a landmark structure and really made a difference to peoples’ lives.
The Forth Replacement Crossing (Queensferry Crossing) is probably my proudest moment though. I was undertaking the role of design compliance and senior site engineer on the project and we delivered a truly iconic bridge. Being part of the team that delivered a world record breaking underwater concrete pour, the longest free-standing cantilever in the world and the longest three-tower, cable-stayed bridge in the world is something special to have on your CV!
