What is your role at Arup?
I’m working as a Hydrogeologist in the geotechnical team in Arup’s Copenhagen office.
Tell us a bit about your background
I’m originally from Sweden but moved away from my hometown 10 years ago to study in Scotland where I completed my university degree. I then moved to Dublin in 2016 where I started my career in Arup as a graduate. After a year and a half in Dublin, I decided to take the opportunity to transfer to the Copenhagen office where I’m currently working.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
In my role in Arup, I get the chance to be involved in a great variety of projects within my key discipline. Arup is truly a multidisciplinary firm, where engineers from various disciplines come together to come up with solutions for projects. As a hydrogeologist, I work closely with other teams such as the water, environmental, ground engineering and civils teams which allows me to broaden my skill-set and keep the bigger picture in focus.
“In my experience, Arup’s offices around the world have great collaboration which gives staff opportunities to travel and experience working on projects in different countries. ”
Why do you love working at Arup?
The thing I love the most about working in Arup is the chance to be mobile and to go on assignments in other countries. In my experience, Arup’s offices around the world have great collaboration which gives staff opportunities to travel and experience working on projects in different countries. The Copenhagen office is very diverse which is largely due to the fact that many people are here on assignments or have transferred from other offices. My team of eight people alone represents six different countries!
What would you say to someone thinking of joining of Arup?
Starting a new job as a graduate after university can be rather daunting. When I joined Arup as a graduate, I was happy to come to a friendly and social work environment where your career development is in focus and colleagues are happy to provide any help you may need. I would recommend anyone to join Arup, particularly as a graduate, since it will give you great opportunities to grow and develop as an engineer while working on interesting projects in a fun environment!
