My work at Arup has been varied and interesting, and I find that it utilises my personal skills and areas of interest. The people, and their skills and attitudes are a big part of why I enjoy working at the firm. Their openness and willingness to collaborate to try and resolve problems and find solutions in an innovative way is inspiring.
I love the challenges I face in my role. Water is connected with a lot of what is happening in the world today – climate change, poverty and human rights - so from that perspective there is always the knowledge that you are dealing with an issue that is critical to humanity.

My proudest achievement at Arup was a project where we carried out a water risk assessment for the River Rwizi catchment in Uganda that is facing severe problems, such as catchment degradation, overuse and pollution. I am from Uganda, so it was great to be able to do a project in my home country. We delivered a good outcome for the client and I was proud to be able to bring the best of Arup to a place where we don’t have a formal office structure.
Growing up in a developing country and having experienced many of the common water issues as a child, this is something that has always stayed with me. So, when I found out that Arup had a Community Engagement Programme I was very keen to become a part of it, and felt it was a great opportunity to give back. It was very easy to get involved in fundraising activities for organisations like WaterAid. I feel that I’ve been able to make good use of my skills through the projects I’ve worked on, especially in countries such as Uganda and India where water resource management is a big challenge.
