Why Arup?
My goal is to learn from the best in the industry and surround myself with like-minded people, and I have found that here at Arup. Arup is full of knowledgeable and experienced members worldwide. Yet, Arup feels more like family than just a company. The environment and culture here is very nourishing and open-minded, so my decision to pursue a career here was easy. I also find that many of my personal and professional interests are aligned with Arup's. I enjoy the flexibility, the opportunities offered, and that I can create my own path to success. We work together to solve interesting challenges every day, making a career with Arup a rewarding one.
What did you study and where?
I studied Mechanical Engineering and received a Master's degree from the University of Houston – Main Campus.
“Being an Arupian feels like being part of a family. My favorite part is the multidisciplinary interactions I have every day, and the diversity within Arup. ”
After interning with Arup, what made you want to join full time?
The people I worked with every day during the internship and the positive impact Arup makes in communities around the world were major reasons why I wanted to join Arup full-time. Everyone was so welcoming from the start. They encouraged my curiosity and development, and that was valuable to me. I love how Arup develops projects with the future in mind and considers sustainable development goals when designing.
What is your favorite part about being an Arupian?
Being an Arupian feels like being part of a family. My favorite part is the multidisciplinary interactions I have every day, and the diversity within Arup.
What is our favorite Arup project that you have worked on to date?
One of my favorite projects began with me helping develop an energy model as an intern. The client was open to great sustainability designs that involved fuel cells and geothermal systems. When I later joined full-time, I participated in the mechanical design of the same project. Along the way, I enjoyed that I was able to learn from the different interactions I had with the project members and see the development flourish during the design phases.
What does a day to day look like for you?
I work in a hybrid model and go to the office three days a week. I get to network and collaborate with many different disciplines. Since I work in building design, I meet weekly with Architects and Structural, Civil, and Electrical Engineers for project coordination. I am early in my career, so I have guidance and support if I need it. I have also observed that senior members have support from each other. I have had opportunities to gain experience with different software and tools used for design such as Revit and have been able to accompany senior engineers on job sites to make sure everything meets our design requirements.
