Sarah is a Graduate Consultant working in our energy team in Singapore. Ever since she was a child, she has been fascinated with the energy industry. Her father, an electrical engineer, would take her on project site visits as a child. It was through these experiences she formed her passion for renewable energy. ? ??

What did you study and where? ?
I studied electrical and electronics engineering and completed my studies in 2021 at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.?
Why did you choose the Arup graduate programme??
Ever since I was studying at school, I have always had a passion for renewable energy and Arup’s focus on sustainable development resonated with this. I started at Arup before graduating as an intern in the Singapore Energy Advisory team. As a result, I gained exposure to cross-region renewable energy projects locally and nurtured leaders who were always available for guidance and support. This experience led me to apply for Arup’s graduate programme.?

What do you get up to in your day-to-day role??
Working in Singapore’s energy team is the right balance of challenge and fun. The energy business in Singapore is growing, and I can work on high-profile energy projects with experienced engineers. The Singapore office is a friendly and fun environment with flexible working options to make the most out of my workday. I’m originally from Indonesia and will be returning next year to spend time with my family for month, thanks to Arup’s flexible working practices. ?
What has been your most enjoyable moment/project so far? ?
Building a techno-economic model for a high-profile hydrogen project in Singapore has been a highlight. Even though the project has been challenging, I feel delighted being trusted to take ownership of the project and have my team’s guidance and support to produce quality work. The work I’m doing will help shape the future of clean energy in Singapore, and the work I’m doing aligns with my purpose and makes me happy at work. ? ??
What are your future aspirations? ?
In the future, I want to help shape the renewable energy future of our cities. I want to help cities like Singapore transition to low carbon energy solutions and help them transition to net zero. Arup’s commitment to sustainable development and shaping a better world is helping me get to this future by building my skills and experience and growing my network in the energy industry.??
