Phil Carter

Associate Principal | Transport Planning – Australasia Leader

Phil Carter is our Transport Planning Leader in Australasia responsible for guiding over 140 people across nine offices in five countries. Based in Auckland, New Zealand, Phil supports our senior leaders to grow their teams and attract new business opportunities. These teams are made up of a diverse group of people with expertise in public transport, modelling, business case development, active transport and digital insights.

Phil has been with Arup for over 15 years and has held senior positions in many of our offices, including Melbourne, New York, San Francisco, London and Auckland. In these cities he has helped deliver several city-shaping projects, improving connectivity and quality of life. 

A people-focused leader, Phil has a passion for building multi-disciplinary teams. Having worked across nearly all our disciplines, he has a unique understanding of the expertise needed to deliver complex and demanding multi-disciplinary projects. He works with planners, computer scientists, analysts, urban designers, engineers, and storytellers to better understand and articulate city and mobility challenges and solutions. 

Phil is a strong advocate for our future leaders. He supports and nurtures our talent so they can realise their full potential. He does this by providing autonomy, challenges and guidance, and a platform where people can gain the skills and experience to grow their career.
